The excess fat within the body falls under three categories, slight increase in body fat is called overweight, and more increase is called obesity and the super obesity where the body fat reaches enormous amounts.
The three categories are measured against a popular formula called the BMI or Body Mass Index. The body mass index was developed in the end of the nineteenth century and it depends on calculating the body weight against the area occupied by the body in meter square. If the result of the equation is up to 24.9 then the person enjoys a normal weight. From 25 to 29.9 the patient is overweight. If the index passes the 30 mark then the patient is entering into obesity.
The obesity may cause several problems and complication if it is left uncontrolled. One of the most important complications is the high blood pressure, the problem occurs when the body mass increases then it needs more blood to supply the oxygen to all parts of the body and with the capacity of the blood vessels stays constant so, the blood pressure increases. With the persistent of the obesity and the high blood pressure for a long time it may develop into heart attacks and strokes.
Presence of some risk factors with obesity may increase the incidence of some diseases. For example, if you are smoking while you are obese then you are more likely to have coronary problems or develop respiratory complications.
